Nearly all of the
recipes involved jello and or margerine so I just might stick to my own
recipes. There are funny notes throughout the book from recipes tried.
One says “not so good, not so bad.” Most of the recipes were submitted
from 4-H members and all remind me of making picnic foods when I was a
kid. There seemed to be so many more picnics and potlucks in the 70s.
What happened to them? Maybe it’s time we bring them back.

We had such an amazing day snorkeling yesterday. There were several
turtles right up along the beach. We were literally in the water 30
seconds when Tom spotted his first turtle. Later on I heard a couple
complaining that there were no turtles and I gave them a tip but I doubt
they believed me. The couple were off to another spot where they thought
they’d be guaranteed turtles. We couldn’t avoid them if we tried. We
would just float above them and watch them nibble. They would
occassionally come up for air and we’d try to properly introduce
ourselves before they dipped back down for more snacks. If the tide
pulled us too close to them, they’d just give us the stink-eye and we’d
back off. Doing an overnight in Kona was a blast and we’re going to do
it again and hit some new snorkeling spots. Vacation is fun. We should
do this more often.

The weather is perfect today here in Hilo and our only plans are some
swimming in the pool and chillaxin’. We may look for a little ipod
player, we are jonesing for music. Tonight is steak, papaya, advocado
and cabbage for dinner. we still have lots of gyozas from the other
night.

We stopped outside of Kona yesterday for some ice cream and I found a
great purse. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect honeymoon bag.
Ironically it’s from a seamstress in LA so it’s my hawaii la bag. It was
too much money but the store owner was nice and sometimes you just have
to blow a wad.

At night we’ve been hanging out at a very funny local bar. The drinks
are full of fruit flies and some of the patrons don’t have teeth. They
are a funny bunch. One insisted on taking a group shot of us so I’ll
post that when we get back. Thursday they are playing hawaiian music and
serving lots of pu pus (appetizers). More on tha5t tomorrow.

Over and out.

Hanging at "home" Originally uploaded by Alanna Spence Today, since Tom is recovering from a sunburn, we are hanging at home.
