I can’t believe I’m not sleeping right now. I got into town yesterday and was greeted warmly by my new city. Young handsome men helped me unload my car, people gave me books, other people laughed at everything I said, I never knew I was so entertaining! I had tea, drove around, and saw a great house with a great landlord but alas the kitchen was too small. Such a great place though. There are some lovely houses here. I picked up Jon after work and had cheesesteaks before enjoying a lovely evening with his mom and stepdad. I settled into my little basement apartment and had a cozy night’s sleep on a comfy bed.

Today I struggled with wireless and work, went down to the corner and got some crackers and olive spread, a tomato, some dried prunes, and an apple, I’d never had this kind before, and I’d like to tell you what it was, but as i type, I am curled up in bed with my laptop on my lap, and that apple sticker is at least 20 feet from where I sit. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Anyway, it’s from Colombia Gorge and it was delicious. I went and got two more just like them.

Apple number 54 was eaten in my car, while house hunting. I drove around endlessly to neighborhoods I would not want to live in, and got a really good sense of what I want and what I don’t want in a house. My hunting wasn’t all for naught. I might have found a contender. A bungalow near Reed college, 2 blocks from a park, 5 blocks from lots of restaurants, cafes and shops, beautiful homes, doggies everywhere. I’ll see the inside of it tomorrow and see if it really is a good thing. I have high hopes. There’s another house near 34th and hawthorne, i guess the guy is getting lots of interest and he wasn’t that excited about us having a dog, so we’ll see, I’m meeting him anyway, He seemed to soften up when I told him we wanted to get a rescue dog.

I spent too much time in the NE and SE 60’s where there are too many Plaid Pantries and too many fast food joints and not enough cafes and groceries. I got a little bit culture shocked, but then realized the good parts of Portland are so good, I just need to stay away from the parts that look like Santa Clara. I’m learning how to narrow down my search. I just hope it doesn’t get too narrow that I never find a place. I’m realizing that location is so important to me. I’d rather wait than be stuck out in the boonies where I can’t really enjoy all that portland has to offer.

I’m tired and I miss my husband. Just one more day then I get to see him again.

I’m here and I’m exhausted. I can’t believe I’m not sleeping right now.
