I cleared a path to my easel, but then gave into my urges of making native bee houses. Spring is here and I don’t want to miss out of the bumble bees coming out of hibernation. I used my paint palette as a gluing station and worked on a bumble bee house made out of a clean, unused paint can. I found some rubber hose for $1 and I’ve drilled a 1″ hole into the top of the can and glued the hose to it. I’ll fill the inside of the can with natural bamboo fiber I found at JoAnn’s. Once I’m done, I’ll bury it in the garden with the hose sticking out of the ground. I’m considering making some sort of ridiculously cute entry way for the opening, something to keep the rain out and keep me from messing up the opening later on when I get too distracted with planting things. I’m imagining a little canopy like a hotel lobby entrance. Maybe I can find something from old doll house pieces at a Goodwill or something. For now I can probably make something out of a can or a milk carton. I’m just waiting for the glue to set and then I’ll be ready to bury it. Hope I get some bees!

The other project I started on Friday was a mason bee house. I found a 4×4 and drilled a bunch of holes in it, then found a 1×6 and made a little roof out of it. I’m waiting for the deck sealer to dry on it before I hang it on a post in the side yard.

77 and 78 were eaten while I busily sawed and drilled, I barely even remember them. They kept me going when I didn’t want to stop and eat. They were both apples that I got from a little produce store called Limbo. They had a big bin for $1 a pound. I meant to get them for juicing, they aren’t the best looking apples in the world, but I’ve been too busy to get better apples from the store.

Feels good to be making something. Whether or not it is art, well… I don’t really care right now. I just know it’s important and I have to do it. Maybe that’s enough reason to call it art.

As of Friday evening, I’ve been getting back into projects and trying to get my studio set up.
