Episode one

Originally uploaded by angrypirate.

We went to Montoleur yesterday to look for some books. Boy did we find

some. We returned to a store where I found last year’s treasures and the

owner helped me find what I was looking for through sign language and

frenglish. He showed me these absolutely stunning bug books from the

19th century. I was just enjoying them at first, knowning they were out

of my pricerange. I dared ask the price and the number he gave me was

not totally outrageous. We ended up buying them and I got all choked up

in the store over it. I strapped them into a seatbelt so they wouldn’t

roll around and covered them with my jacket to protect them. I showed my

amazing find to glen and pat, who went oooh and ahhh over them.

We started getting suspicious over then receipt. Turns out, the books

were much more than we had thought. Much, much more. We still need to

call the bank to confirm, but I think there was a communication problem

over the price.

We laughed heartily over it once we realized how silly I must have been

to think for one minute that I was getting such amazing books for such a

small price. We planned to call the bank, make sure that yes, we were

charged what the reciept says, and if so, drive back to the store in the

morning.

Then tom stopped laughing and got that deep, contemplative look on his

face that means he’s up to no good. He started seriously considering not

taking the books back. We started talking it over. We thought, if we

found a painting that brought one tenth the pleasure that these books

bring, we would pay what we did on these books and be happy. Maybe,

under these strange circumstances, we found a truly amazing treasure

that we should hold onto. It’s a little overwhelming to think about.

I started a gauche painting based off some ideas in the books that I’ll

hopefully have to show you all by tomorrow.

But yeah. Crazy. My boyfriend is crazy. And I’m a lucky sucker.

The crazy book caper.
