Today is so wonderful. I am happy and full of adventure. I’ve been dreaming of the perfect aspic and am putting my culinary instincts to the test. I’m attempting an aspic with yellow beets, fennel, and rhubarb. It is a daring combination and I am excited not knowing if it will fly or flop. Ever since I tasted that tomato and eggplant aspic with pesto in France, I’ve been obsessed with aspic. I was successful at my copy of the tomato eggplant and now I’m adventuring further into the world of aspics. The world needs more aspic recipes and I am fully up for the challenge.<\/p>\n

I entered some of my machines paintings into an encaustic show in portland today. I’m excited I found the time to get my things together for it. I’ve been a little busy trying to fit in work and other show deadlines. I would love an opportunity to show my work in portland. If I don’t get into this show, I’m sure there will be other juried shows in portland I will find.<\/p>\n
I went to the haight-ashbury market and got a basketful of fresh stone fruits and other fantastic goodies. Having bags full of fresh fruits and vegetables is one of my most favorite feelings. I haven’t had as much time or money to grocery shop lately and I miss my fruit.<\/p>\n
On the way home I stopped by the Booksmith and treated myself to the August issue of Gourmet magazine. I read recipes like most people read books. This one came with a special supplemental booklet and inside was the most wonderful surprize. An artist by the name of Maira Kalman<\/a> had several pages worth of journal sketches with writings about breakfast. They are wonderful and inspiring. She is an illustrator and has done some children’s books and work for the new yorker.
