We rarely give a second thought to how much we consume on a daily basis and how much trash we generate. Take a look in your cupboards, what do you see? packaging galore. High-gloss full color boxes of cereal promising you lower cholesterol, cookies in color boxes, in plastic trays, wrapped in plastic. Everything is double-wrapped in plastic! Why do we need all this plastic in our lives? It’s ridiculous. Do you ever wonder why it is that baggers at grocery stores will sometimes take a large item like laundry detergent, equipped with it’s own handle, and stuff it inside two plastic bags? You buy a handbag at the department store and they put it in a bag. It seems stores just want to give you bags more than they want to sell you merchandise. I’ve had experiences where I’ve asked they not put my things in a bag and they look at me like I’m an alien. Let them think it. I am sick and tired of bags. And I’m asking you to join my crusade. No more bags! Get yourself a compact canvas bag, that’ll fit inside your purse for those moments you find yourself picking up tonight’s dinner at the grocery store. Equip the trunk of your car with several reusable bags for larger grocery trips or other shopping trips. Buying apples, carrots, or other easy carry produce? Say no to the produce bag, and if you do grab one, reuse it for somethign else. Let’s stop the madness.
