Apples 111 – 114

I ate apple 111 at flickerbox while taking a doggy break for the day. It’s so fun to work downtown in Portland. Makes me feel human again. Each time I go downtown I realize I really need to do a gallery crawl. Things have been so hectic since we moved here.

apple 112 was eaten as a waldorf salad with roast chicken on Wednesday night. I was to busy eating to take a photo. I made this batch with half mayonnaise, half vanilla yogurt. I was worried it would be too sweet but it was just right. I added some leafy green lettuce to the mix and it made a great, hearty side.

apple 113 was eaten post dog park on Thursday afternoon. She was the one doing most of the running but it wore me out too. After the park I collapsed in my happy chair with my apple and a pomegranate soda and watched some Dog Whisperer. He’s a one trick pony and I figured out once you see one or two of his episodes, you’ve seen ’em all. I got the apple at Limbo on 39th near Holgate.

apple 114 was part of a fantastic cheese plate that we enjoyed at Gino’s in Sellwood on Thursday night. I love that this town loves cheese. Our waiter was rad, the food was so so tasty, and the place has a great atmosphere. Casual in decor but serious about food. The wine list is huge and our waiter was very knowledgeable. She wrote down the names of the cheeses for us on our to go box. I had taglietteli with cardoon, something I’d never seen or heard of before. It’s a plant, sometimes called artichoke thistle. It basically looks like green rhubarb and tastes like a mild artichoke. It was quiet tasty. And if you are as serious about pork as me and Tom are, you should know they served Tom one of the tastiest chops we’ve ever had in a restaurant. I really appreciated the love that went into his vegetables too. Often cooks focus on the meat and do a half-assed job on the veggies. His were so perfectly cooked and delicious, I added his leftovers to the cardoon pasta. The are good cooks. We’ll be back often.
