So… I was coughing up some blood. Which was kinda scary. It happened Monday and I waited to see if it would go away. It did, so I wasn’t worried. My cough from this terrible flu virus has been very violent and the idea that I could be coughing so hard to cause bleeding seemed very likely. I was feeling better yesterday though my chest hurt a lot last night. But this morning I coughed up quite a bit of blood. I rushed myself over to the hospital and they x-rayed me. I am clear for pneumonia, and I probably don’t have anything more serious than mild bronchitis. As I suspected, the blood was probably from the mucus and violent coughing tearing my throat up. The doc gave me some azithromycin to help kill off any infection, and some cough syrup. I looked it up and it had some pretty funky side effects:
More common side effects may include:
Anxiety, constipation, decreased mental and physical performance, difficulty breathing, difficulty urinating, dizziness, drowsiness, dry throat, emotional dependence, exaggerated feeling of depression, extreme calm (sedation), exaggerated sense of well-being, fear, itching, mental clouding, mood changes, nausea, rash, restlessness, sluggishness, tightness in chest, vomiting
I especially liked the bits in the middle, like emotional dependence. I think I’m gonna use that one as an excuse for a while. Sorry I can’t stop hugging you Tom, it’s the cough syrup. Mucus. What a lovely word. Mucus mucus mucus. I am emotionally needy because I have too much mucus.
