Dangerous to your health

I left my new job yesterday. I knew I was going to somewhere around Memorial Day but my boss was on vacation so I decided to stay and help out. I had worked there just over two weeks. They were upset I didn’t give them two weeks notice. That seems odd to me. I’ve never done this before, left my job so soon after starting. From the beginning, I could tell the stress level and erratic work hours were not for me. I’m so sad it didn’t work out. I really had high hopes for this place. But I need a regular schedule, and I need for my stomach to not eat itself, and I need people to not yell at me when I’m doing the best I can. I’m just not willing to put up with it anymore. It can be hard to find a web development job that doesn’t want to suck the life out of you. My coworker told me he had stopped playing music. Another coworker said she worked all day and all night. When I told her what a nice night I had, that one day I actually got out of work at a normal time, she said “don’t get used to it.” She didn’t know I had already made my mind up to leave. My boss considers me a canary in a coal mine. Many people there feels the same way as me and they seem to have a high turnover. My boss asked that I write a letter to the partners expressing why I decided to leave. You can read it here.

So I’m back at square one. No job, no idea what to do for money. I’m going to take a breath first. I’m going to get some things done that have been neglected. There are some juried shows to submit to, some serious cleaning to do, cds to sell, things to give away, my old computer to sell, exercising, and friends to catch up with. Plus all that wedding stuff to do.
