“Almost paradise” is the song that keeps running through my head, over
and over again. But its in a sarcastic way. Don’t get me wrong, we’re
still having a good time, but the place we’re staying in is well… sort
of like taking a vacation in a run down San Jose apartment complex. And
since I’ve lived inb all kinds of San Jose apartment complexes, there’s
no charm in it for me. They’ve fixed up the apartment pretty nice, but
all of the buildings are sort of dilapidated on the outside. Plus,
there’s a herd of shrieking elephants living upstairs. Downtown hilo is
pretty cute. Lots of thrift stores and pawn shops to riffle through so
we can write our song “my pawn shop guitar.” Trust me, this is a good
thing.
We had dinner at Pesto last night, a popular spot on the main strip. I
decided their motto should be “Pesto, I’ve had worse.”
My neck is still pretty painful, though it has improved greatly over
where it was a couple days ago. If you hadn’t noticed, the pain is
making me a little testy. I had actually temprarily forgotten about it
when I chose to dive head first into the swimming pool. Ouch! And then
discovered I couldn’t use my arms without lovely sharp pains shooting
through my neck. So I’m stuck with wading in the shallow end for a
couple more days. And no kayaking either! Bummer, there are a few places
in hilo bay to rent kayaks and canoes, but here I am stuck with a pain
in my neck. I don’t feel like a sexy bride, I fel like a pathetic
invalid.
Today our order of business is to eat breakfast, relax, go to the
farmer’s market, and relax some more. Monday we rent a car and do some
exploring. It looks like we’ll probably keep the car for the remainder
of our stay here and spend less time in the apartment. I wish my neck
would hurry up and get better. Over and out.
