Six weird things about me

1. I grew up in California and I don’t like avocados. I just don’t like them. I eat them anyway. I feel like I’m supposed to like them, everyone is always giving me grief for being an avocado hater. But I’d be just as happy letting the avocado lovers have them all. Ironically, I can pick out a perfect avocado and I make a mean guac. Or so I’ve been told.

2. I almost always take a different route when I drive to familiar places. It makes me feel adventurous, also, I kind of can’t help it. Sometimes I catch myself inadvertantly turning before I have a chance to stop myself.

3. Whenever I’m in a restaurant or fast food establishment, I feel the need to consoludate dishes and containers. I have to reorganize and stack plates throughout the meal to acheive the most comforting table arrangement. I also have strong urges to fold paper bags. And if I see someone folding one wrong, or if they just fold up a double bag together, I have to refold it.

4. I get attached to inanimate objects, sometimes weird and trivial ones. One of my favorites are those little plastic sampling spoons they have at ice cream parlors. I’ll carry around one of those spoons for days, weeks, even years. They take on sentimental meanings. The objects I choose can be anything. I found a dried up piece of fabric in the middle of the dessert and I treat it like a sacred object. On my desk right now is a noise maker from new years eve, a label maker that no longer works, a small plastic monkey (from Mod), a halloween spider ring, an empty band-aid box, a rock, another rock painted like a bee, an empty airborne tube, a champagne cork, aother rock, a weird plastic fish in a bag that I got from inside a kinder egg, goldfish stickers, a key ring with no keys or decorations, and oh! some french language software (see next)!
5. I’m obsessed with foreign language books, cds, takes and programs. I have so many it’s ridiculous. Dictionaries too. I can’t part with them. I’d easily give up some of my favorite novels before I’d part with one single foreign language book. I can’t speak any other language very well. I suppose I learn enough to get by on vacations. I imagine someday that I’ll learn just by having all this stuff around me. And then who’ll have the last laugh!

6. I hate changing my clothes, except undies and socks. I’d wear the same thing every day if I could get away with iot. I wear tank tops to bed and sometimes I’m so lazy, I’ll just throw a sweater on top and I’m good to go. This has gotten progressively worse over the years and is especially bad now that I’m in art school and they are just going to get covered in paint anyway. Ironic thing is, I rarely get paint on my clothes. Maybe if I did, I’d change my clothes more.
