Apple #9 Braeburn from Rancho Royale

My 9th apple of the year hails from eastern Washington from a farm called Rancho Royale. The grower Less Hollowell went all the way to New Zealand where the Braeburn apple originates to learn about the art of growing Braeburns. I learned that Braeburns were one of the first commercial “bi-colored” varieties.
From OrangePippin.com:

This combination of modern colouring and flavour means that Braeburn was effectively the first of the new-wave of modern apple varieties.

I guess this means my apple is on par with Immanuel Kant. I am eating a piece of apple history. Wonder what a postmodern apple would be. Maybe it would be a pear that looked and tasted like an apple.

The phenomenological experience I had with my apple this morning was of a pleasant, soft, tangy flesh with a tender skin. It had a strange aftertaste I couldn’t quite place but it added an extra element that I quite enjoyed.
