Aloha! We had a nice day today. We woke up, made some coffee, had some
fresh pineapple, then headed to a fast food drive-in place cafe 100 for
some perfect hawaiian breakfast. I had two scoops of rice with
portuguese sausage and fried eggs. Tom had toast instead of rice
(foolish man). Then we poked around the shopping center near us. I got
some conditioner and a brush and we scoped out the japanese restaurants
near us.
We decided hilo isn’t a very walkable town so we tried to find a rental
car to keep us out of trouble until we get our reserved rental car on
monday. No luck, it seems all the college kids are coming into town with
their parents to get them settled so all cars are rented out. So we
walked to Ross where Tom got socks and undies and I got myself another
skirt just for fun. After ross we found a taxi (the driver is going to
stanford!) and we went to the farmer’s market. Lots of yummy fruit. We
loaded up on more than we could carry home. I had desires to make gyozas
so we stopped by the KTA for ground pork, gyoza dough, and cabbage. We
found cheap, nice beach towels and a bottle of white wine. On the way
home we went to cafe 100 again and I had a moco loco. Tom had a burger.
The beef here is delicious. Seems cows do well when they get to eat
grass all day. When we got home we took the world’s longest and best
nap. Then more pineapple, gyoza making and eating, and white wine. We
took a dip in the pool and showered. Pretty soon we are heading to the
karaoke bar that is just 50 feet from our apartment. We’re getting used
to our little place and I think once we have a car, it’ll be nice to
have this little place.
It seems very wrong that Tom has not yet dipped a toe in Hawaiian
waters. That is the next thing on the agenda. Tomorrow we walk up to
coconut island and around bayfront park. Maybe the ice ponds if our feet
are kind to us.
