Just wrote this up for the france workshop.
My goal for this year’s France workshop is to take a slice of Caunes-Minervois home with me. I’d like to work with objects from around Berges and Caunes-Minervois gathered on walks. I’d like to work with collage, embedded objects, line drawing, pastels and watercolor or acrylic. I’d like to work on paper and will probably bring a stack of small, light birchwood panels to work on.
My imagery will include leaves, bugs, birds, cherries, herbs, flowers, rocks, and dirt. Some items will be incorporated; some items will be drawn or painted. I think the materials I choose to use will drive the imagery. I’d like to focus my subject matter on “tiny treasures”, studies of trinkets and small wonders that I find. I have considered finding a magnifying glass to take with me to study textures. I am interested in bringing a little bit of beeswax with me to use for encasing objects but I’m not sure how easy that will be. I’d have to find some way to melt the wax. I will have to think about some options there.
I am hoping my final product will end up as a study of tiny elements that together make up a big picture of the area, like a photo album of objects, colors, textures, and other sensations from nature.
I’d like to continue the journal work I started last year and will be doing studies in watercolor, pen, and caran-darche.
