Here we go! It’s September, the second week of fall semester and school is in full swing. On Mondays I have a History of Moving Image class, Tuesday is a sculpture class with David Eckard — Activating the Object. My studio Mentor is local sculptor extraordinaire Chandra Glaesman. I have 9 units, Juniper is in school 3.5 days a week, and we are ready to rock-n-roll. I’m hoping to keep up regular writings for PNCA’s Untitled Magazine and I’ve got some freelance website work to help with material costs. Phew! Lots on my plate. The game plan is to stay on top of things. Sounds great at the starting gate, we’ll see how well I do at keeping up.
Some fun and interesting projects this fall:
My sculpture class involves a daily or weekly “Additive Tallisman” project, which basically means, some project I add to (or subtract from) on a daily or weekly basis for the Fall term. It’s something that’s right up my alley, but I’ve never done anything like this in the realm of sculpture. Still letting my mind churn on some ideas. Whatever I come up with, I’ll be documenting it here.
I’ll be doing a presentation in my History of Moving Images class. I am thinking of doing something on Jan Svankmajer since I can’t seem to get away from him lately.
Super sexy show at Museum of Contemporary Craft – Quality is Contagious. It’s about Portland furniture designer John Economaki and his quest to create the world’s greatest, most beautiful and useful tools. Loved it, but especially loved the show’s accompanying book. So if you have the time, sit down with this gorgeous book which can be found along the back wall in the upper gallery amongst the display of super sexy woodworking tools.
