• Banished

I’ve been banished to the Pointless Forest for not having a point. My paper swirls and spirals our of control like a big bowl of fussili noodles and there’s no hope for a recovery. Who needs a point anyway. Just hit “Print” and go to sleep. It’ll all be over soon enough.

  • Giving It Away

Giving it away – Seeking Relief in a Money-mad World. Since the 1960s and the birth of minimalism, see land art and conceptualism, drugs artists have been involved in creating works never intended to be shown in a gallery/museum setting. In two manifestations of this idea: street art, and mail art, the artist simply gives…

  • Jamie Vasta at Patricia Sweetow Gallery

Hurray! Glitter! Jamie Vastaâ??s latest series â??Mustnâ??tâ? is absolutely stunning. Some of the pieces in the show made me experience a funny fluttery feeling inside. Before seeing this show in the flesh, I wouldnâ??t believe it was possible to make sophisticated, rich, virtuosic paintings in nothing more than craft glitter and wood stains. The nine…

  • New saying

OK yeah, I’m procrastinating up a storm today! But just wanted to share my new saying. I bet no one in the history of the English language has ever come up with this one: “Grateful as a pig in a mud puddle” back to work.

  • Bay Area Art Quake is Launched!

About a month ago, Anna L. Conti decided to start up a community blog about art in the Bay Area. Lucky for me, she asked if I would contribute. We’ve been giving it a test run over the last month and it looks like this project is actually going to stick! In just one month…

  • Sheesh

My teachers are making me do stuff… all kinds of stuff, and I keep getting deadlines wrong. I thought I had a week and a half to write a particular paper but got an email today informing me it’s due tomorrow. And I had convinced myself that my research paper was due on the 13th…

  • Progress

I weighed myself today and I lost 2.5 pounds last week. On the way to the scale I was giving myself a pep talk because I thought I had gained! I am liking my weight watchers. We’ve been comparing the weekly progress to various levels of pit bosses in video games. Each two pounds I…

  • Guy Kawasaki on building a community

Guy Kawasaki wrote an article in February 2006 about building communities, he’s mainly speaking about companies in the computer/internet industry, but his sage advice could certainly pertain to an artist’s life and community as well. Read the blog post. If I didn’t have a paper due, I’d like to take a stab at my interpretation…

  • Things to do after I graduate

Spend one day doing absolutely nothing. Re-read all the great articles I’ve collected over the last five years. Make a whole bunch of messy, directionless, and haphazzard drawings and collages. Sift through my notes and combine all the important ideas into one document. Go to some bee keeping lectures/demos.

  • Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla

A short paper I wrote on their work. A show that they curated “Apocalypse Now” is currently on display at the Wattis Institute on the San Francisco CCA Campus through January 26th. They gave a lecture at CCA last week that I was unable to attend. Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla have been working as…

  • Things I'd rather be doing

  • Week One Worked

I joined Weight Watchers one week ago. Despite Thanksgiving I lost 1 pound and I’m feeling really good about going back on Weight Watchers. Tom is being a sport too, eating meals heavy in veggies and light in starches and fat. I try to make things just as tasty and add other things like salami…
