I was feeling down in the dumps last night. Really down in the dumps. The next couple months are going to be very busy and confusing for me and I’m having that irrational fear like I’m never going to make art again. But today I received the gift of inspiration. A link to an article in the New York Times sent from my friend Visnu on the artist Tara Donovan. She makes minimalism-inspired sculptures out of common objects like cups, pencils, tape, and glass. They are absolutely beautiful; quiet and graceful. She builds structures using the repeating shapes of her chosen material. I just got rid of a bunch of pvc tubing that I had a similar project in mind for. I just needed to clear out the studio. I kind of regret it now. Anywhooo… Her work is inspiring to me and it got me concentrating more on my busy idleness drawings. I’ve been slowly working on them, but I’ve been more idle than busy when it comes to the drawings.
I toast to Tara with this apple! It shines red with the passions for creating beauty out of the very simple.
