Hi, just a note to tell you I’m safe and sound in Morgan Hill, recovering from very sore feet. No major damage was done, I’m just hobbling around like a toddler! I’m posting photos from my trip in little bits at a time. Click on the Eat sign above to see what’s new in my Flickr account.
I made it from San Francisco to Palo Alto in 2 days, 35 miles in total. The rest of the adventure I’m going to do in 1-day trips. I was just not physically ready to do those sorts of miles in such a short amount of time. Once again I bit off more than I could chew. Should have planned out something like 10 miles a day. 22 miles the first day did enough damage that I couldn’t recover. Live and learn. It was still an adventure and it now continues in Morgan Hill with good friends. I’m REALLY getting into baking fresh bread. I began a sour dough starter today and have been experimenting with sandwich breads. Things are good.
Tom has been so amazing through this. Many partners would have discouraged the entire idea of this trip, Tom nurtured it and supported it. I took this trip as a gesture of love and a preparation for our marriage, and the idea that I thought I could do it on my own, without burdening Tom, is silly. The first day of the trip, I was starting to really hurt and I kept trying to imagine that cheesy christian saying about footsteps in the sand and where you can’t walk, God carries you, or whatever nonsense. In Tom and my relationship, we have always carried each other through the tough times, and it is no burden, it is a true pleasure. I hope that’s what it was for Tom, I’m certain it was, because for me, it was the most beautiful engagement gift he could ever have given me; the gift of untiring support and love. I found out along this journey that I am a strong person, and Tom makes me so much stronger. And I also found out I’m strong enough to know when to quit. I love you Tom. You are so amazing.
