Today sort of felt like a holiday kind of day. I have the rest of the week off from school. I did spend some time doing homework, but that homework involved going to the SFMOMA so it didn’t really feel like homework. I got to see the Kiefer show: Anselm Kiefer: Heaven and Earth. Powerful stuff. I’ve seen many of his paintings in person or in slides, but never this many at once. The pieces I most liked were the star books; crazy, decaying, lumpy books made in burlap or lead, with paint and goop all over them. I think they are an homage to Robert Fludd who believed that each plant on earth has a corollary star in the heavens. I like this very much. More here. I spent a lot of time in the Phil Collins exhibit: the world wonâ??t listen. A bunch of karaoke performed by 20 and 30 somethings in Istanbul. I love it. I’ve gone to see it twice. I have a strong connection to the whole karaoke phenomenon and have always been so fascinated by it. Watching people from another part of the globe, singing the same Smiths songs that shaped my teenage years, makes the world feel like a small place.
