So you know how I like to overextend myself? Well it appears next year will be no different. Heck, I might as well start talking about my new years resolution now. It appears I’m getting an early start on the new year.
resolution #1: Get my art out into the world. hang art in cafes, or other art spaces so it gets seen and stops collecting dust on my shelves.
Just to add more pressure, I joined up for an ArtWorkSF membership. It’s not cheap, it ends up being just under $600 for a year. I’m guaranteed 12 shows and I don’t have to do much else except fill out entry forms, drop off art, and pick up art. They find the venues, they curate the shows. My friend Anne Karin did it last year. She said she didn’t sell much but that the people are great and it was an easy way to get some shows under your belt and get your art into the world. Other people that have done the membership seem to have their art all over the city. So anyway, I have a lot of shows to prepare for I suppose. That’s kinda wacky. I just signed myself up for a hell of a lot of work.
resolution #2: Finish Associates degree
piece of cake. it’s in the bag.
resolution #3: start BFA
yeah, gotta get on that this semester. Gotta figure out where I’m going and I suppose I’ll have to study for that SAT thing.
resolution #4: sell illustrations and photos on istockphoto
This will have to be a slow and steady process. Not sure how to schedule for this. gonna have to come up with a plan.
resolution #5: continue the finders keepers project
yup, I’m on it today. one drawing a week, left somewhere for a stranger to find. I had to put it on hold with the school and book crazy schedule. It’s time to reinstate it.
resolution #6: write more
yeah, this is already happening. I will have 3 articles on the monkey this winter/spring. Might look into minoring in creative writing too.
resolution #7: wear more skirts
this shouldn’t be too hard with all the receptions I’ll be attending. See resolution #1. Maybe I’ll make a plan to always wear skirts on school days.
resolution #8: spend more time with friends
this shouldn’t be at the bottom of the list. that’s an attitude problem on my part that must be adjusted. I feel like I’ve given up in some respect. I’ll get better at finding time.
the rest of them: be more frugal, have more fun, have more sex, loose another 20 pounds. These are a continuing list of things that wax and wane as life throws its punches and bones. Hard to measure, hard to follow through on… especially when I throw down $600 for someone else to market my art. Is that being frugal? $50 a show? I don’t know. we’ll see. It’s an experiment and something to keep me motivated, because lord knows I need motivation (that was sarcasm).
