Class… ehhhh

I took a class today on encaustic monotyping. I think it should be renamed to encaustic on paper. We just painting wax on hot palletes and rubbed paper over them to transfer. So yes, technically monotype, I suppose, but I don’t know, kind of a stretch. I made the mistake of being charitable. There was only supposed to be two people per palette but it didn’t wind up like that. I figured it’s better to place nice and share in the playground so I was very generous. I offered to share my palette and ended up getting edged out. The women that shared our station was a hog! and rude! and dumb! The women even had the nerve to take the paint brush right out of my hand! So I hardly did any actual excaustic work. Instead I just dipped paper and used other mediums on top. Fine whatever, I’ll remember not to be nice when my money is involved. I paid good money for a class and got diddly squat. I suppose I paid money to find out what a generous person I am. That sounds better anyway.

Enough of my rant, I did do a couple pieces that I like. Like the one you see here. It’s just pen and ink, dipped in wax, then gold transfer paper rubbed on it. I have it hanging in our window. The paper turns translucent when you dip it in wax.

I should mention something special about the drawing you see here. This alien plant that you see here was inspired by the bug books we found in France. The most incredible entomology books that at the time of purchase, we thought we one price, then later found out were quite another. Tom foolishly and lovingly decided that we should still keep them, even after we found out what we really paid for them. They were a very special gift to me and I cherrish them. i would have cherrished them anyway, but the act of love involved increases their value tenfold.
